Ageism - ♫ The Old Grey Mare Ain't What She Use To Be ♫ - by Pmccray

I was surfing the net for a grey ponytail, extension or wig, long in length. The selection wasn't bare, but thin. Not as daunting a task as it was last year. Couldn't find nary a one, but now that grey has become a trend for younger women the selection has increased some what. How that happened is beyond me. Especially with some sites touting the look as; "Granny Do's, Granny Hair or Granny Trend."  Yeah that should have the under forties running out to buy their products. What moron thought this is good advertising?

Granny Do's, Granny Hair, Granny Trend
Some fashionista's who, by the way, are also of a "certain age" forget where they came from. We are left out in the cold . Our particular demographic should be cartoon characters, knee deep in grandchildren, grey short dos, mommy jeans, granny glasses and frumpy frocks. Nothing on the horizon but death. No style, no color just bland.

Its a sad state of affairs that anyone, especially women, of a certain age are literally ignored. We have been placed, in a box constructed by fashion gurus, with the message that we no longer matter. No vision. These "icons" have anal tunnel vision focusing only on young, thin, whites to set trends (which, if you think about it is kinda dumb . . we're the ones with the money!)

It is as if all women over fifty should be grey haired, but not wearing long grey hair that's a form of blasphemy. You need to act your age . . . what a load of BS!
We are the champions, Baby Boomers, the original trend setters. The sixties were it . . okay? We turned the fashion industry on its ear male and female. We said "No" to the establishment and its standards of politics, music, sexual / racial stereotypes, freedoms and fashion. Some of us protested and died in the fight against the rampant hypocrisy of the establishment. Our actions changed the face of this nation. We invented the Hippie / Bohemian Style . . sex, drugs and rock n' roll baby!

Now we are sidelined. Relegated into a box of what the aged should be. Our generation didn't die off or become stagnant. Yes, we have aged, but that sense of "its your thing" is still alive and kicking. We were then and still are badasses!

The naysayers are right, in a sense, we are no longer trend setters, because what we have now is STYLE!

Style is forever, fashion is fleeting. Style is unique to an individual. Style reflects your inner self. Trends are a flash in the pan . . no staying power.

How to Cover Dark Spots

I have been using Dermablend for almost a year and swear by the product. In my late thirties, a doctor happen to mention, whilst removing new moles that appeared on my face, that every time I have hormonal changes the moles would reappear.

Well needless to say, thirty years later, my body is now awash with moles of all colors and sizes. Dermablend is the only product, I have found, that camouflages these little hideous buggers. YouTube has a bounty of information on the company, products and application tips.  A little pricey, but the product and my piece of mind are worth it.

“I much prefer being a man. Women have to spend so much time pulling themselves together, and their shoes kill your feet.” ― Shirley Booth

Hmmmm . . don't think I'd go that far, but I hear ya Shirley! Much ado has been made about Julia Roberts' barefoot jaunt across the Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet. Honey, we've all been there, and done that.

Julia Roberts

Ladies we've all been there at one time or another. Its a right of passage. Part of growing old gracefully, and there comes a time when frankly my dear . . . you just don't give a damn.

SiriusXM Town Hall With Patti LaBelle Hosted By Gayle King.
I finally stopped purchasing shoes that are not the right size, because "they're cute". My shoe size changed with the onset of menopause. I wear nine to nine and a half wide, and proud of it. If the footwear I want doesn't come in a wide width, with a two and a half to three inch heel (I go no higher) they don't come home with me.

My footwear choices are gauged by my journey on a particular day. To work or church I can tolerate a shoe less comfortable. Shopping or any other trip longer than walking from the car to my destination I opt for comfort all the way.

Animal Print Slide by Midnight Velvet
Recently, I scored the animal print slides above, and adore these shoes. Drooling over them every time I open the box. They have a two and three quarter heel. Even so, going down the one flight of stairs from my apartment is a bit unsteady for me. So, I gingerly make the short trek shoeless, and slip into my slides at the bottom of the stairs. The first time I did this my husband looked at me like I had finally lost my mind. Better that than helping me up from an impromptu prat fall.

So in closing Mmes. Roberts, Labelle, and all other grown ass women; a quote to live by ..

Great Read: The Face That Launched It All : A Memoir

Beverly Johnson was born in Buffalo, New York on October 13, 1952, back when African-Americans still were being denied the right to vote or permission to sit in the front of a bus. Black folks also had very limited career options, especially in the field of modeling where a narrowly-defined standard of beauty meant the catwalks and mainstream magazine pages were pretty much restricted to whites.
